Throwing a baby shower is an exciting milestone as you prepare for the arrival of your little one. As you start to plan, there are a few key details to keep in mind that will help make the shower fun for your guests and easy for you! Personalize, customize, and really make your baby shower your own, but here’s where to start:
Pick your theme and color palette
Your theme sets the mood for the entire baby shower. By starting with the theme and color palette, you have a north star to guide you through the entire planning process. When you commit to a theme early, you also allow yourself the opportunity to ensure that all parts of your shower, from the invitations to the decor to the favors, tie into the theme. Not only will this give your shower a cohesive feel, but it will make it feel even more festive for you and your guests!
Create a registry early
When you’re making room in your home for a baby, the last thing you need is more clutter in your home. By creating a registry early, you are able to add it to your invitation and give your guests time to purchase the gifts you really want and need. Reach out to friends and family members with children to find out about their must-have items.
Put thought into your invitation
Whether you opt for printed or paperless, your invitation will be the first touchpoint with your guests. Introduce them to the theme of your shower, share a link to your registry, and, of course, share the important details of the special day. If you have a unique request of guests (i.e. asking everyone to come prepared with words of advice for the new parents, etc.), this is also a great place to share that.
Feed your guests cake
Make the cake the showstoppers at your shower - trust us, you won’t regret it. Get creative! Try to have your cake follow your theme and color palette, but you can think outside the box! Everyone loves a fantastic cake, so find a local bakery, share your shower theme with them, and work with them to create a one-of-a-kind design. Your guests will be thrilled!
Pick an activity (or two or three!) for guests
Photo booths, advice stations, and bib or onesie decorations are just a few ways to keep guests entertained and to create lasting mementos from the shower. Plus, all of these activities don’t need a host to keep them going and guests can partake as they wish. Add a little healthy competition to the activities and have the mom-to-be pick her favorite at the end!
Hire a professional photographer
By hiring a professional photographer, you have peace of mind that all of the special moments during your baby shower will be captured and you and all of your guests can just enjoy the day! If hiring a pro is a bit outside of your budget, ask around to see if anyone you know has a professional camera you can borrow and designate one friend or family member to be your photographer.
